OUR STORY

The Wilson and Carol Trueblood Performing Arts Center is a multi-purpose 253 seat theatre on Washington Island, Wisconsin. TPAC was made possible through the generous bequest of long-time summer residents Ruth and Wilson Trueblood, a gift of land and endowment funding from Arni and Mary Richter, and substantial support from the Washington Island Foundation and more than 800 individual, family and business volunteers and donors. TPAC is named in honor of Wilson and his daughter, Carol, and the performance space is named in honor of Mary Richter.

For over a century, Washington Island residents and visitors have attended plays, concerts and meetings in gymnasiums, restaurants, halls, barns and churches. Now, with the addition of the Wilson and Carol Trueblood Performing Arts Center, island organizations can host first-class performances in a comfortable, heated and air-conditioned facility befitting the the diverse talents that reside in the Washington Island community.

Groundbreaking ceremonies took place during the summer of 2003 with members of the Trueblood and Richter families participating, along with Town Chairman Dutton Moorehouse and other island dignataries.

The 253 seat facility was designed by Frederick Phillps and Associates of Milwaukee. The first phase of the project was completed in 2004, giving the island a safe, comfortable venue to host a variety of performances and events.

Today, thanks to the generous dedication of donors, volunteers, community leaders, and board members the TPAC has become a vital asset to the Washington Island community.
